Spare Tickets Initiative

Why’s It Gotta Be Theater Group believes theater is for everyone - including those who may not be able to afford upfront ticket costs.

That’s why we have our Spare Tickets Initiative.

What Is It?

Per the standing rule that can be found in our bylaws:

“Up to 20 total remaining unsold tickets per production may be sold at a pay-what-you-can rate in-person on a first-come first-served basis.”

What Does This Mean?

This means that patrons who cannot pay the standard price of a ticket for any show may arrive at our box office before any show to purchase a “spare ticket” in-person, so long as:

  • There are still tickets available for the performance

  • 20 “spare tickets” have not yet been sold over the entire run of the production

Is There Anything I Should Do First?

Patrons looking to purchase a “spare ticket” are strongly encouraged to consider volunteering first before attempting to purchase a “spare ticket.”

This is so that “spare tickets” might be more available to those who might not be able to easily volunteer.

Volunteers always see Why’s It Gotta Be? Theater Group shows for free.

How Do I Purchase a “Spare Ticket”?

For patrons who cannot volunteer, please arrive at the box office the day of any performance they would like to attend and ask if there are any remaining "spare tickets."

If there are, patrons will be asked how many they would like and how much they are able to pay - no questions asked.

If there are not, patrons will be advised accordingly and are encouraged to volunteer if positions are still available.

How Can I Find Out If There Are Any “Spare Tickets” Still Available?

You can:

  • Arrive at the box office the day of any performance they would like to attend and ask if there are any remaining "spare tickets”

  • Email us at admin@wigbtheater.org and we will get back to you as soon as possible

If the latter, we cannot reserve “spare tickets” and cannot guarantee any remaining “spare tickets” will not sell out.

If “spare tickets” have sold out, patrons are encouraged to volunteer if positions are still available.

Can I Purchase “Spare Tickets” for Someone Else?

Anyone can purchase any number of “spare tickets” so long as the above criteria is met - however, your entire party must be present when purchasing “spare tickets.”

Can I Purchase “Spare Tickets” for a Different Date?

No - “spare tickets” can only be purchased the day of the performance that they are intended to be used for.

Why The 20 Ticket Cap?

While Why’s It Gotta Be? Theater Group wants everyone to be able to attend our shows, “money is real,” and we ultimately do have costs that we have to afford - we unfortunately have to limit ourselves accordingly.

In certain situations, the House Manager may use discretion in bypassing the allotted maximum number of spare tickets per production on a case-by-case basis.

We hope our Spare Ticket Initiative will be used in good faith to provide theater for everyone.
